FAQs

Is this church new?

New Covenant is 40+ years old. People began to meet in a local Statesboro home in the late 1970s, and later formalized as this congregation in 1980.

How long has Pastor David been the lead pastor?

Pastor David McLendon was a student at GSU in the 1980’s and became of a part of New Covenant Church then. He was water baptized in this church by the first pastor. David received a word from God in 1986 that one day he would be the pastor of this church. The Lord brought David and Elena back to Statesboro in December of 2009 to work as assistant pastors and in April of 2011, God’s word to David was fulfilled when he and Elena were set in as the lead pastors.

Why do we worship so long?

We value authentic worship that focuses on blessing the Lord rather than receiving during worship. We often linger in the presence of God and create space for extended times of purposeful ministry to God.

Why do you raise hands and dance during worship?

We believe that worship is so much more than just a musical expression of our love for God. Biblically, physical response in worship is found throughout the Old Testament and New Testament. Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is true and proper worship.” In 2 Samuel 6:14 King David danced before the presence of God and David was known as a man after God’s heart.

What is the vision?

Our vision is simple: We want to see people’s lives transformed by an encounter with God. Our goal is that people will be changed when they are genuinely touched by the life-changing power of God. We believe that God’s power can change any person in any situation or condition, no matter where they are in life’s journey.
